HELP YOUR KID LEARN TO CODE… FOR FREE!

Seattle CoderDojo is a free coding club for kids, powered by volunteers, donors, and sponsors.

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK?

Beginners / Hour of Code:

The CEO of Microsoft, the President of the United States, and Seahawks players have all endorsed and/or participated in the Hour of Code. We offer it all year round, because kids should be able to get a fun, easy intro to computer programming any time of the year.

Basic Scratch:

Scratch is a programming tool that lets kids create programs by combining different pieces that do things. No typing is required, no special software is needed, and after they’ve done a couple of the Hour of Code tutorials, they’ll be able to jump into this pretty easily. It does require Scratch so iPads and Android tablets won’t work.

Advanced Scratch:

For the kids who have mastered a lot of the basic programming skills in Scratch, Mentor Michael is exploring more advanced game mechanics and other topics.

nodeschool / Indie:

Nodeschool.io is a self-paced courseware that helps teach node.js, a framework for building desktop and server side apps using JavaScript. It is  one of the hottest new job skills in tech and demand for it is growing. It’s not easy to learn and we don’t recommend this for younger kids. Being a good typist and really liking programming is a must, because this is challenging.

Indie means “independent,” and any kid who is working on a project of their own in JavaScript, PHP, Python, etc. who just wants to hang, hack, and get some help from experienced developers can join this room too.
