HELP YOUR KID LEARN TO CODE… FOR FREE!

Seattle CoderDojo is a free coding club for kids, powered by volunteers, donors, and sponsors. We help kids build projects and work through online tutorials.

SPECIAL THIS WEEK:

We’ll have some cool swag from O’Reilly’s OSCON open source convention and a representative from iD Tech‘s summer programming camps will be hanging out in the kitchen area to talk about their summer programs with interested parents.

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK?

Beginners / Hour of Code:

The CEO of Microsoft, the President of the United States, and Seahawks players have all endorsed and/or participated in the Hour of Code. We offer it all year round, because kids should be able to get a fun, easy intro to computer programming any time of the year.

This room is also a great place to do a couple of intro lessons in Scratch to get your child ready to move up to the Scratch Room.

Scratch Room:

Scratch is a programming tool that lets kids create programs by combining different pieces that do things. No typing is required, no special software is needed, and after they’ve done a couple of the Hour of Code tutorials, they’ll be able to jump into this pretty easily. It does require Scratch so iPads and Android tablets won’t work.

We’re going double-sized and trying a “Pick Your Own Project” model where kids will get to choose from a number of interesting projects at various levels, or work on a project they’ve brought with them.

Developers Room:

Try a recommended online tutorial in a number of programming languages, get help planning your own project, or get help with a project you’re already working on.
