Upcoming Classes
NEAR FUTURE
On October 24th, we’ll go back to the 4+ room structure.
Our rotating workshop will be mentor Unmesh teaching a 5-week course on creating a Java GUI application with Swing (tickets avail. 10/12).
The JavaScript room will return with one side being unstructured mentoring for kids from the Minecraft workshop who want to continue exploring Scriptcraft, and the other side being independent projects and Nodeschool.io.
Mentor Hawey, who can often be found in the rec room, making sure our loaner machines are in good shape, is also offering to do some mentoring for kids interested in Unix/Linux systems administration.
2016
We’re planning to pilot a MOOC (Massively Open Online Courses) study group, using CoderDojo Saturday sessions to review the weekly online lessons and provide help with concepts students are getting stuck on. The exact MOOC course we’ll use is TBD. We’ll be using the Seattle CoderDojo Facebook group to interact with parents on the possible courses for this. Join the Seattle CoderDojo Facebook group if you want to be part of that discussion.
Call for Eastside Dojo Volunteers
There’s a small group of organizers working on an Eastside Dojo. Learning from last year, they’ll start smaller and build capacity as the infrastructure to support it develops. What they need right now is to build a volunteer list… non-coders who can help with event logistics and operations, mentors who can plan and run workshops, mentors who can assist with workshops, and people who can help with IT needs like managing some loaner laptops/tablets.
If you’d like to volunteer for the Eastside CoderDojo, please drop a note to info@seattlecoderdojo.com with your contact information and skills. We’ll get it to the Eastside organizers to follow up with you.
So here’s what we know:
When?: Soon… hopefully a few sessions before the year is out.
Where?: They’re still nailing down a location on the Eastside. If you can provide a location for 30+ kids (plus parents and volunteers), drop us a line and we’ll connect you.
How Do I Sign My Kid Up?: We’ll announce their sign-up URL and process when the first date is solid.
