Get your tickets EARLY
Every Friday night I get a handful of “I forgot to reserve tickets, just went to the site, and ticketing was closed” emails. Don’t put yourself through that. Reserve your tickets now and have a calm Friday night.

New Hangouts Schedule
We have set up a semi-permanent video chat room using Google Hangouts and are scheduling weekly hangouts for both Curriculum (Wednesdays) and Organizing (Thursdays). We are publishing the schedule on the site, but the link to the room is only available as a pinned discussion in the Seattle CoderDojo All Volunteers group. If you want to join the discussion, please join the Google group for volunteers.
Minecraft Update
We have one BETA license for a JavaScript-based Minecraft Modding courseware and we’ll be getting some licenses donated when the product officially releases next year. To prep to run the class next year, we’re using the beta license to teach some selected older DojoKids to be Minecraft Modding Mentors (Triple M’s). We’ll be discussing how to implement that in Wednesday’s Curriculum Committee hangout.
Eastsiders: we need more mentors
This past weekend, the kids to mentor ratio at Amazon was around 6:1, while at City Hall it was closer to 15:1.
We need 5-7 more mentors every week on the Eastside. We need our Eastside members to help get the word out and help recruit. Just point them at the Volunteers tab on SeattleCoderdojo.com, or better yet, offer to reserve them a volunteer ticket and bring them with you to an event.
We’re working on more ways to retain mentors, but we need your help to get them in the door on the Eastside.
Westsiders: we’re at Wainwright
In case you didn’t/don’t notice on your ticket, we’re at Amazon’s Wainwright building this Saturday, not Van Vorst. Wainwright is just up Terry another block and across the street. Remember that parking at 550 Terry Ave N. (across from Wainwright) is 2.44 for all-day and you pay at a terminal near the elevator in the street-level lobby.
Startup Weekend Bellevue wants you!
We wouldn’t have had those cool digs at Bellevue City Hall without our friends Lynne Robinson of the Bellevue City Council and Jason Alinen of Startup Bellevue.
This weekend at City Hall, they’ll be hosting Startup Weekend Bellevue, where groups will form on Friday night, work on start-up concepts over the weekend, and pitch them on Sunday evening.
If you’ve got startup fever and want to give this whole Startup Weekend thing a try, drop Greg a line at info@seattlecoderdojo.com. Jason’s offering to get a couple of our grown-up members (parents or mentors) in for free. Some very interesting businesses have come out Startup Weekend. Here’s an article on 10 success stories.
If you’re looking to launch a startup, this is a great way to meet other likeminded people and at minimum get some practice and insight. You might also come out of it with a viable business model and a team to launch it with. Drop Greg a line at info@seattlecoderdojo.com if you want to go.
