Two more Dojos this month
November 15th, and 22nd are ticketing now. We’re off on November 29th for Thanksgiving Weekend.
HOUR OF CODE 2014 – 12/13 – 250 KIDS
Our free Hour of Code tickets go “on sale” on Thursday at noon. The whole event is dedicated to the Code.org Hour of Code. It’s mostly for beginners, but there are some options to try new programming languages for the more advanced kids. This is the highest energy CoderDojo of the year with lots of new kids having those “a-ha” moments that we love.
We’re getting a flyer you can print and share approved by Amazon (since we use their logo in the flyer and are most definitely associating them with the event, it’s appropriate to ask their permission). Once it’s okayed, I’ll make sure to send out the flyer link.
The latest on Minecraft
We have our teen mentors selected. Congratulations to Melody, Kale, Daniel, Connor, Brandon, Zack, and Aayan. We will not be accepting any more. They will be working during the next three Dojos, over the break, and in early January to prepare a 6-week Minecraft modding course.
We’re 95% sure what modding environment we’re going to use. The current plan (subject to change) is to start sign-ups for a small pilot class in late January by lottery (long-time attendees will get extra entries), notify winners by early February, then run the class in the 6-week period between Mid-Winter Break and Spring Break. After it, we will do a post-mortem, refine, and decide when we’ll run the next one.
Holiday Gift Guide?
Do you have a programming book, piece of educational software, or laptop you’d recommend? Know of a great deal that’ll happen *online* for Black Friday? Drop a link to buy the product, a recommendation in 50 words or less, and a link to your personal site (if you have one and want your name linked to it) to info@seattlecoderdojo.com. If we get some good ones, we’ll publish a gift guide in the “Buy or Donate” section of seattlecoderdojo.com on November 24th (Monday before Thanksgiving).
