Next Year’s Workshops

We’ve started a discussion and vote about ideas for next year’s workshops on our Facebook Group. The group is “closed” but that just means you have to request admission. It helps us keep out spammers (though not perfectly).

If you’d like to weigh in on the discussion, please visit our Facebook group.

Hour of Code: Star Wars Edition

Got an email from Code.org that they’re previewing a special “Star Wars” themed Hour of Code project featuring BB-8 and Princess Leia. You KNOW we’re going to be putting that on the menu for our 3rd Annual Hour of Code event at Amazon.

If you know a kid who has never programmed or has had minimal exposure to programming, this is the event to get them to come to. Lots of kids, fun, prizes, and more. It will be awesome.

We’ll also have some options for more experienced kids, so don’t feel like we’re ignoring our regulars. Tickets go live on Monday, November 16th at 7 a.m.

Let’s Do Some Road Trips in 2016

We just submitted a request for 31 dates to Amazon for next year. That’s down 7 from this year. There are a couple of reasons for that. First it gives our volunteers a couple more weekends off. Second, by not having Amazon as an easy option on those weekends, it pushes us to do a few “road trips” like we did in 2014, where we had CoderDojo at some interesting locations.

While we plan to approach old friends, we’d *love* to talk to new ones too. So if you know a large company that would like to have their premises invaded by 80-100 kids and an entourage of parents, siblings, and mentors, please make an introduction.
