There are also plenty of tickets for this Saturday’s May 9th dojo left. This is Scratch Day and we’re supposed to have a parent bringing in some comics for those of you who missed Free Comic Book Day on the 2nd. Get your May 9th tickets here.
Android Workshop Progress
The Android Apps with JavaScript workshop – Week 1 page now includes an embedded YouTube video of the livestream from the class. Over the weekend, the video had 37 views (lost when we trimmed the first few minutes of waiting for things to start), so it seems that people are getting some use from it.
We didn’t get to the last two steps, creating a repository on GitHub and pushing your app to it, then building the app and installing it on your Android device. We’ll start next week’s workshop with that and then move on to creating our second app.
The NEW Python Room
The conference room off the kitchen will become the new Python room. There’s room at the table for 10 students, Chris, and an assistant mentor. We’ll book 11 in-person seats (because there’s always one child who can’t make it) and 30 remote seats. If you are booking a remote seat for your child, do not book a parent ticket. The parent tickets are only needed for Amazon security for parents who are attending in person.
Chris is going to do a six-session workshop running May – July (May 16, May 30, June 13, June 27, July 11, July 25), then a 2-week session to finish the summer. This is a great opportunity for kids who did the first session to continue with Python or for kids from the JavaScript room looking for a new challenge.
Summer Game Building Workshop
Mentor Avi will be teaching a workshop about JavaScript game construction concepts. Each week he’ll have a demo app which the kids will modify and build on to learn basic concepts of game construction. Like Minecraft, Python, and Android Apps, this will be a progressive workshop with each week building on the previous week. We’ll also livestream for kids who need to catch up or want to attend remotely. Sign-ups for Mentor Avi’s workshop will go live June 1st and the workshop will run June 13 & 27, July 11 & 25, and August 8 and 22.
We will do another Minecraft Modding with ScriptCraft workshop starting on September 12 and running through October 17.
