Avi’s workshop will be a 5-part workshop running June 13, June 27, July 11, August 8, and August 22. It will be in the “rotating classroom” (the classroom doesn’t rotate, but the content does) and be at the same time/place as regular Dojo. Your ticket for Avi’s workshop will be good for all 5 weeks.
Another New CoderDojo: West Sound!
CoderDojo is gaining traction in WA. When Greg went looking for one in May 2013, there were none. Now there are 6. One of the newer ones is West Sound CoderDojo. They have two meetings coming up:
June 6 (this Saturday) at Poulsbo City Hall: Get tix for Saturday at Poulsbo.
June 13 (next Saturday) at Bainbridge Island Public Library: Get tix for next Saturday on Bainbridge
That Minecraft Workshop
We had a few questions about the Minecraft workshop on July 11:
- What are the prerequisites?: This is a standalone workshop intended to provide an introduction to JavaScript through Minecraft modding. No prior coding experience is required. You will need:
- a laptop capable of running Minecraft (Windows, Linux, or Mac).
- a Minecraft license from Mojang.
- decent typing skills (practice your typing here).
- When are sign-ups?: They start June 30 as part of the July 11th Dojo sign-up.
- How much will they learn?: This is just a fun intro. We’ll help them set up a server, write a couple of very basic mods, and point them to more information for continuing on their own. We’ll launch a more involved 6-week session after school starts in September.
- How much does it cost?: The workshop is free, but Minecraft isn’t. If you already have Minecraft on your laptop (XBox Minecraft is a different license), you’re good. If not, you might have to buy a Minecraft license for $27.
