No New Tickets This Week
CoderDojo is OFF for St. Valentine’s Day. Why? We break for major school holidays and most of the schools in the area are making the weekend that includes Valentine’s Day part of their 5-day weekend called Mid-Winter Break. We will not be breaking for Spring Break because the schools tend to spread that around and we’d have to take 4-5 weeks off to cover it.
We will however be breaking for Memorial Day weekend, Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, and Winter Break. We’ll also go on a half schedule (every other week) during June, July, and August.
Saying “Until We Meet Again” To some Volunteers
We want to thank Phil Desrosiers for being an awesome “official Amazonian” who has handled those organizing tasks an Amazonian was needed for and more. He stepped up, helped us get a lot of resources, helped make sure a lot of the pieces fell into place, and during our experiment with Eastside/Westside editions, he was the Westside lead.
Phil is leaving us this month because he needs more time for work and family, but he leaves an amazing legacy and we are grateful for his help.
Sam Henry, also an Amazonian and also proof of the amazing people they hire, will be stepping up as our “official Amazonian.” If you’re an Amazonian and you’ve been coming regularly, please connect with Sam at Dojo about becoming a back-up “official Amazonian” and building some redundancy into that system.
Don Scott has been with us only a few months, since Hawey Wells recruited him to be our laptop guy on the Eastside. But in that time, he dived into the laptop program with gusto and a number of you have not only gotten a loaner from him, but he may have helped you with upgrading or troubleshooting your own machine. He’s going to be a new dad. So we’ll see him again when the baby is sleeping through the night and he can, in good conscience, leave his wife alone with the new baby to come out.
Ryan and Tony have been jumping in on laptops along with Sam and Hawey (our original loaner guys).
Minecraft Sign-ups Are Closed
We had 121 kids signed up who earned 295 tickets. When each kid is drawn, all of their tickets are removed so they don’t get drawn a second time. We’ll do the official drawing on Monday afternoon and notify parents in the evening. We are drawing 50 names (30 winners and 20 alternates). If a winner bows out, we’ll go to the first alternate.
