Get Your Tickets For April 18 (and 11th)
Tickets for April 18 are now available. Reserve Yours Now
We also have tickets available for April 11th. Because this is the convergence weekend of two major regional Spring Breaks (and we accidentally took them off availability for a couple of days), we actually had about 26 child seats left as of this morning. If you’ve been thinking about coming to Dojo, this weekend is a great opportunity.
April 11: Sam and Hawey are in Charge
Greg’s not going to be at Dojo on the 11th. He’s taking a weekend off to recharge his batteries before starting a new role as a Developer Evangelist at Avalara. Sam and Hawey are in charge.
We still need a couple of people who want to train to be in charge so there’s more redundancy in the system. Greg’s new job will involve travel, meaning that “old faithful” is going to be missing more Dojos. We’d prefer not to have to cancel Dojos just because all three of us have other commitments some weekend.
Just email Greg to volunteer.offer yourself as tribute
Next Workshop: Android Apps with JavaScript and Cordova
The voting on our Seattle CoderDojo Facebook group is in. This will teach your kids to use JavaScript and HTML5 to build cross-platform mobile apps, not mobile web sites, but actual apps that can be submitted to app stores and installed on phones and tablets.
We’ll target Android in this class because Android apps can be built on Mac, Windows, and Linux, but iOS apps require Mac OS X. We could teach how to create a “Hackintosh” (running Mac OS X in a virtual machine on Windows or Linux) but that’s sort of illegal. So for this first iteration, we’ll focus on Android.
Registration for this workshop (4 weeks: May 2, 9, 16, 30) will open on April 20. We’re not sure if we’ll do a streamcast/remote option like Chris is doing with Python. We want to see how that works out the next two weekends.
The choice of what we’ll do over Summer (6 weekends on an every-other-week schedule so people can enjoy the sun) is not set. The next “Minecraft plugins with ScriptCraft” workshop will start September 12th.
If you can’t wait until September, the creator of ScriptCraft has a book about it coming out in 3 weeks. Order the Beginner’s Guide to Writing Minecraft Plugins in JavaScript.
As always, the Scratch, Code.org, and JavaScript / Independent Study rooms will remain available on a drop-in basis.
