PLEASE BRING A LAPTOP IF YOU CAN. ONE TICKET PER CHILD PLEASE.
WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK?
Ages below (except for professional certification) are recommendations and not strictly enforced.
Code.Org Room (All Ages):
Introduce your child to concepts of Computer Science with a fun “Hour of Code” tutorial, or begin a journey on Code.org’s interactive Computer Science curriculum for different grade levels.
Scratch Room (2nd Grade & Up):
Scratch is a programming tool for kids, created by MIT. It lets kids create programs by fitting together blocks on screen. This is a consistently popular room.
Hacker Room (4th Grade & Up):
What do you want to learn? Kids can bring their own projects to work on and get help with, or they can take advantage of our learning paths which combine free online tutorials and project ideas to help them achieve mastery of various tech skills and programming languages.
MIT App Inventor SESSION II (Week 3/5 – 5th Grade & up)
THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF LAST SPRINT’S APP INVENTOR WORKSHOP. NEW STUDENTS CAN JOIN BUT THEY’LL NEED TO DO A FEW TUTORIALS ON THEIR OWN TO GET UP TO SPEED. MAIL INFO@SEATTLECODERDOJO.COM FOR LINKS.
From the people who invented Scratch comes a development platform focused on helping tweens & teens learn to build mobile apps that run on Android phones and tablets.
Pre-requisites: Requires a commercial Google/Gmail account to login and create projects. We will have a limited number of loaner Android tablets available for those who do not have an Android device and cannot install the MIT Android Emulator on their Mac, Linux, or Windows laptop.
Professional Developer Certification (8th grade & up):
Get your child started on an independent-study professional certification program with FreeCodeCamp.com. Supported by donors and volunteers, Free Code Camp certifications have helped over 10,000 people get their first tech job or level up in their tech career. Our mentors will help your child get started and then provide tutoring and guidance at our meetups. Each certification requires approximately 300 hours of online lessons and project work, so plan for your child to do the majority of their work on this at home.
