THREE-PART WORKSHOP (6/11, 6/25, 7/9 – one ticket covers all three sessions).
LEARN DIGITAL DRAWING SKILLS AND MAKE ART FOR A GAME
This will be a three-session workshop, making a project called “Feed the Dog”. Because we will be on an every-other-Saturday schedule for the Summer, we’ll provide light homework to keep the kids in practice.
Week 1 (June 11): Introduction to Inkscape and creation of some static game objects (bone, ball, etc). Kids will go home with an assignment of some more objects to create during the two weeks away to stay in practice.
Week 2 (June 25): Creation of multiple frames of an animated main character. Kids will go home with additional frames to create and options to animate an object or two.
Week 3 (July 9): We’ll provide a pre-written, simple JavaScript game and we’ll insert our art, test the game, then make some simple tweaks. It won’t be for absolute beginners, but any kid with some simple JavaScript knowledge or some experience in the Scratch room will be able to pick it up.
REQUIREMENTS: Because of the homework, you’ll need a laptop of your own that you can install the drawing software on. The software we’ll be teaching is the leading open source drawing program, but it does have to be installed locally. It runs Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux.
Also, week three will require a little light typing and editing of code. As noted above, any kid with some simple JavaScript knowledge or some experience in the Scratch room will be able to pick it up.
THIS REGISTRATION IS FOR ALL THREE SESSIONS
