THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Due to concerns about COVID-19, companies are sending employees home, trips are being cancelled, events are being cancelled. We’re no exception. It’s not just keeping you and your children healthy, we want to keep everyone you come in contact with healthy, especially people at risk.
We have every intent of coming back when gatherings become safer. In the meantime, we’ll work on making the next gatherings even better.
Saturday, March 21, 2020 – 9:45 am to noon
Seattle CoderDojo is a free STEM skills meetup for kids, powered by volunteers. Free underground garage parking is available nearby.
WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK?
Ages below (except for professional certification) are recommendations and not strictly enforced.
Intro to Coding (All ages):
Get a gentle and fun intro to coding with some of Code.org’s great tutorials for kids of all ages.
Scratch (2nd grade & up):
Scratch is a programming tool for kids, created by MIT. It lets kids create programs by fitting together blocks on screen. This is a consistently popular room.
Intro to VR with C3D (3rd grade & up):
Kids can get an intro to Virtual Reality, building with a Scratch-like block programming environment. Tutorials take kids from creating a simple 3D scene to building simple games. 3D scenes and games can be viewed on most Android/iPhones with a Google Cardboard type viewer. We can provide viewers, but not phones.
Unity (5th grade & up)
Unity is a popular 2D/3D gaming engine that can be programmed with C# or its own scripting language. We offer a selection of Unity tutorials for students to try with mentors to help them if they get stuck. Please download and install Unity Personal before coming.
Pick a Project (4th grade & up):
Choose from a selection of fun projects or bring your own. Build a web site, a game, or experiment with circuits. Also a great place for AP Comp Sci homework help.
Professional Developer Certification (8th grade & up):
Get your child started on an independent-study professional certification program with FreeCodeCamp.com. Supported by donors and volunteers, Free Code Camp certifications have helped over 10,000 people get their first tech job or level up in their tech career. Our mentors will help your child get started and then provide help at our meetups. Each certification requires approximately 300 hours of online lessons and project work, so plan for your child to do the majority of their work on this at home.
ALL KIDS MUST HAVE AN ADULT ATTEND ALONG WITH THEM. NO DROP-OFFS. ONE ADULT CAN BE THE GUARDIAN FOR MULTIPLE KIDS. WE HAVE COFFEE.
FOR THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF ALL OUR GUESTS AND TO COMPLY WITH AMAZON’S BUILDING ACCESS RULES, ALL ADULTS 18 AND OVER WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW PHOTO ID AT CHECK-IN.
PARKING IS FREE AT THE GARAGE ACROSS THE STREET. ENTER ON REPUBLICAN ST, BETWEEN TERRY AVE N AND BOREN AVE N. THE ENTRANCE IS INSIDE THE ALLEY BETWEEN THE TWO BUILDINGS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE STREET.
* PLEASE BRING A LAPTOP IF YOU CAN. WE HAVE SOME ON-SITE LOANERS, BUT WE DO NOT GUARANTEE WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH TO MEET DEMAND.
