June 27 Tickets Available

June 27th tickets are now available. Get yours now.

July 11: Intro to Minecraft Modding

Greg’s going to teach an Intro to Minecraft Modding with ScriptCraft at the July 11th Dojo, using Minecraft modding as a vehicle for teaching some JavaScript basics.

This will be a “no experience necessary” session, meaning your child will not need any programming experience, though they will need some typing skill and a laptop with a working/licensed copy of Minecraft on it (XBox Minecraft won’t work for this and Mojang requires you to get a license at Minecraft.net for the laptop/desktop version).

This will be a first come, first served registration on June 29th at noon as part of the regular Dojo sign-up. We’ll have a Minecraft Modding Workshop Student ticket.

July 25th is Robots Day

In celebration of International Nodebots Day, we’re planning a 5+ hour Dojo with robots, more robots, and lunch.

Our normal 4 classrooms will become:

1. Sphero: Different than our robot rodeo, we’ll use Cylon.JS to connect to the Sphero robots and program them with JavaScript. If you have a Sphero you can loan for this, please let us know.

2. Hardware Hacking: We’ll be hooking up some hobbyist boards and components and programming them with the Johnny-Five node.js library.

3. ????: Still working out the content for room 3. Could be as simple as making brushbots, or something more.

4. Community Demo room: Do you have a cool robot/hardware project you’ve been building, want to show off your 3D printing rig? We’ll have 8-10 tables for the maker community to come in and show off their coolest projects with audience award prizes for the projects the kids vote the coolest.

Kids will get an hour in each room, and cycle through all four rooms over the course of the day. Between Hour 2 and Hour 3, we’ll break for lunch.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you want to help teach in a room, demo your project in the community room, or you’re just an amazing salesperson who can help us sell our 5 sponsorships (see below), please email us.

SPONSORS NEEDED: We’re looking for sponsors to help offset the costs of robots, prizes, and food. Sponsors will get their names mentioned repeatedly throughout the event, their logo in the event program, their logo on the SeattleCoderDojo.com event pages (premiering July 1), their name and link in the SeattleCoderDojo.com sponsors box for the rest of the year.

SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS:

Title Sponsor: $1500 – It’s the “[Your Company Name Here] Robots Day” + you’re a room sponsor.
Room Sponsor: $1000 – The [Your Company Name Here] [Sphero / Hardware / ??? / Community] Room.
Lunch Sponsor: $1000 – Sponsor lunch for our 200 or so attendees and volunteers.

Mail us if you want to sponsor. Every penny that comes in will go toward the event.

Thanks to the following folks for helping bring this Robots Day together: Katie Kurkoski of PewPewLaser, Ryan Roemer of Seattle Node.js, Farrin Reid of Seattle Nodeschool.io, and Seth Vincent of Code for Seattle.
